Officially starting my eighth month today.

How Far Along: 32 weeks
What Baby Mac Is Up To: Baby Mac is now the size of a jicama! The kid is getting pretty heavy and enjoys full body stretches at my expense. It makes me laugh and wince at the same time – I’ve pretty much given up all control of my body until June. Baby Mac can also suck his/her thumb; some babies are even born with a callus from doing it so often!
How I’m Feeling: Exhausted, but happy. And I don’t even mind the exhaustion, to be honest – I’ve had such a healthy pregnancy so far, and I’m so thankful for that.
What’s On My Mind Lately: Checking some major things off our to-do list this month. We finally pre-registered for labor and delivery and chose a pediatrician, and we’re excited to start classes at the hospital. I also can’t wait for my maternity shoot with Lindsay and Laurie next weekend! Time to narrow down some outfits.
I’ll also be purchasing a few must-haves from the Lilly Pulitzer for Target collaboration. Because, duh.
What I’m Craving: Lately, beverages of all sorts: regular iced tea, Diet Coke, and my beloved Miller Lite. I’m also planning a shellfish feast the moment this baby is out of my body.
What I’m Looking Forward To: Heading back to Ohio this weekend for my cousin John’s wedding! It will be the last time I’m home before Baby Mac arrives, and I’m really looking forward to seeing my extended family.
Coolest Moment This Week: All four days of our babymoon! We didn’t stop laughing all weekend. I think we both needed a few days away from work and our apartment. (And sunshine. We needed that, too.) We went back and forth on traveling somewhere far, spending one night away somewhere near(ish), and finally settled on a staycation after looking at our considerable “Fun Things To Do In Chicago Before Baby” list.
And what a staycation it was. We did a movie night and vegetarian sushi on Friday and spent the rest of the weekend exploring the city. On Saturday, we had brunch at Seven Lions and checked out the Ireland exhibit at the Art Institute in the morning, which left the rest of the afternoon for dragging Mac in and out of shops on Michigan Avenue. Saturday night, we stayed at the Ivy Boutique Hotel and ordered Gino’s East in. And let me tell you – snuggled up in plush robes on a giant bed, eating pizza and watching movies – BEST THING EVER.
On Sunday, we ate brunch at the West Egg Diner and grabbed Stan’s Donuts on the way to the Lincoln Park Zoo. (Finally got to see the snow monkey exhibit and the newborn gorilla!) On Monday, we headed to Andersonville and indulged in iced lattes at La Colombe, sweet treats from the Swedish Bakery, and lunch at Hopleaf. I also found the perfect knockoff Valentino Rockstud flats at Akira and bought them immediately. We finished our babymoon with, rather appropriately, our baby – our biweekly doctor’s appointment went great, and the kiddo is right on track.
