What are your best packing tips for traveling between seasons?

Time and time again, I rely on my own advice from this HelloGiggles column: First and foremost, LAYER. It’s the best way to plan for any and all types of weather. Think whisper-thin tanks, lightweight tees, cardigans, blazers, and a heavier jacket, depending on the season. Throw on an oversized scarf, and you’re good to go. The key is to pack separates in neutral colors to mix and match: denim and black for bottoms, solid colors and stripes on top.
When I travel, I rarely stray from the following:
- Chambray and white button-downs
- Striped long-sleeved tee
- Gray boyfriend cardigan
- Cream camisole
- Black tuxedo blazer
- Dark skinny jeans
- Black leggings
- Leopard-print ballet flats
- An oversized leather tote
You can create many different outfits from simple, uncomplicated pieces; this cuts down on the need for laundry (or handwashing in the hotel sink), and may save crucial room in your luggage.
And depending on how much space you have in your suitcase, you can always add a fun print or bold pattern to the mix for variety. Consider packing a major statement piece to bring a little sparkle to your basics; a great necklace can dress up anything and look just as chic with a pair of jeans. Wedges or ballet flats will take you from dinner to drinks in any city and help you navigate cobblestone streets much easier than stilettos (a hard-earned lesson in various European destinations).
Finally, always pack more underwear than you think you’ll need. Trust me on this.
