Dear Maria,

I keep hearing that midi is the go-to skirt length for spring. What are the best ways to style it?

Hi Hannah!

The midi (also known as tea length) is definitely the hem of choice this season. Full or sleek, it falls somewhere just below the knee and mid-calf, and it works for petite and tall girls alike.

Midi length can be worn a number of ways this spring. I adore the dramatic circle skirts and will be pairing mine with a ladylike pump or statement heel. (Standing at 5″4, I need a little boost with this length.) I’m also loving the midi with a crop top, as seen above. The fuller the skirt, the tinier the waist: think fitted on top and keep the volume below.

I also have my eye on this pleated version from J.Crew. The sleek pleats and narrower cut of the skirt allow for a lower heel, and I imagine it with a slouchy sweater in the same hue and my favorite D’ Orsay flats. No matter the height, this is the perfect length for showing off a major shoe.

The midi itself is something of a statement and with so many affordable options available, it’s the one piece every girl should add to her wardrobe this season.
