Night To Day

Dear Readers,

I might have overindulged a little this Christmas. And I don’t just mean with food and drink (although there was plenty), or even holiday sales (even more so). No, I’m talking about the sparkle explosion in my closet this past season. If the following months promised as many parties, happy hours, and girls’ nights out as December did, I’d have an entire wardrobe ready to go.

So what to do with all of this holiday wear in January? Take it from night to day.
Let’s start with this metallic sheen skirt from Halogen. I wore it with a sequined sweater and flirty peep-toes to a dinner with friends last month. For my first day back at work, I paired it with a red plaid button-down, opaque tights, and simple black pumps.
Worn with more casual pieces, the skirt is suddenly office-appropriate. And it’s all in the details: Gold bows and a knockout statement necklace add sparkle long after the party is over.
Style Now, Style Later: Work in a more conservative office? Pair your party skirt with a classic black turtleneck or crewneck sweater. Another option? Throw a basic cardigan over a festive top and tuck it into a black or gray pencil skirt for your Monday meeting. Black tights and pumps will keep the outfit 9-5.

How are you wearing your holiday pieces this month?

  • I love that you called it a sparkle explosion 🙂 such a cute outfit!

    • Becky,

Hahaha, that’s the only way I can describe it–one peek into my closet, and you’ll see all of November/December’s additions involve sequins, metallic threading, and/or glitter of some sort. Whoops. And now that it’s January and time to tighten the belt, I am challenging myself to keep the party going and make new (January-friendly) outfits!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  • So cute Maria! I love the idea!

    • Alicia,

This is my way of getting the most out of those special holiday pieces AND abiding by my “save more money, wear the damn clothes you have” resolution. 😉

Miss you and hope you’re doing great!

  • I love the idea of “keeping the party going”! I seem to think I can only wear sequins and glitter around the holidays. You just proved me wrong.
Love the plaid shirt, the color is great and so versatile.

    Thanks for the inspiration!

    • Hi Lizzie!

Thanks so much for stopping by! It’s funny how basic staples can instantly transform some of your most festive pieces and make them more suitable for every day. I find a little sparkle can lift your spirts in a 3pm Monday meeting, too. 🙂

Can’t recommend this plaid shirt, enough–it’s actually very long, like a tunic, and looks great with jeans!

  • This is seriously ADORABLE.
